He struck me as polite but cool. Maybe he’s an asshole but he seemed like your typical Northerner. The stuff he’s been accused of here in Columbia sounds what you would expect from most cash based small businesses.

I’m inclined to feel more compassion for Mr. Rutherford (though I’m sure he wouldn’t appreciate anyone’s pity)

He met his future wife when he was a teenager and she was a fortune teller (grifter) 20 years his senior. In his early 30′s he faked his death for money after managing and losing another elderly fortune teller’s savings in the stock market. Mr. Rutherford was eventually caught and convicted. He has completed his sentence and now must try to make a life for himself.

He is trying to start over in South Carolina. It seems cruel to persecute him. No, I won’t be trusting him with my nest egg but he deserves a chance to live a law abiding life.

employment at pop’s is disturbingly easy to obtain. he doesn’t care who you are or what you have to offer the restaurant. employees are expendable expenses to him, just like the 360 pounds of cheese that is gone through every few weeks. he pays the majority of them less than minimum wage, classifying them as either or both “independent contractors”/”tipped employees”. The only job in that hell hole that could be honestly reasoned to those titles would be delivery driver, and they are even cheated out of money since they are expected to do about 50% of the work in the kitchen.

On top of this, Bey keeps no true employee records. This is due in fact to his tireless efforts of tax evasion. All employees must file their own taxes, and once your employment has reached ~$9k then you will mysteriously be let go/fired – usually under the guise of some made up bullshit. this is the #1 reason for pop’s poor standard of quality – the place shuffles employees about every 2 months. your chance of eating pizza made from sauce and dough that was well made and cooked to a good standard is extraordinarily low.

Bey is a sleazy businessman, a crook, and deserves NOONE’S business, avoid this place like the plague. Show Bey that his kind is not welcome here.
