President George W. Bush's
job approval rating has fallen below
his I.Q. for the first time in his presidency,
according to the latest opinion
polls. Most analysts blame the drop in numbers on recent criticism's of the president by Oprah Winfrey, along with continued commentary from noted Hollywood intellectuals such as Charlie Sheen and Susan Sarandon. Forty-nine percent of the poll's respondents felt that they themselves were smarter than the president. Fifty-five percent said they were brighter than Oprah Winfrey, and a whopping 92 percent say they're smarter that Charlie Sheen. Republican pollsters blame the dip on recent natural disasters and the resulting rise in gas prices. “With the economy roaring and the president's supply side tax cuts clearly working, American's have grown accustomed to a certain way of life. This leaves American's with lots of time on their hands to feed off the liberal media, and question the president's policies,” said Harvey Williams of FOX News. Guy Williams, president of leading Republican think tank, Always Right says “Freedom to criticize the president is one of the great things about this country. Just as long as it doesn't happen in an election year.” Collin Clemmings , a GOP pollster points out, “Shifts in approval ratings are common in the second leg of a two term presidency. In .98, when the Starr report came out, Clinton 's approval rating fell below the number of women he'd slept with.”

Democrat pollsters see it differently.
David Cobb, of The Nation
said “Clearly American's see Bush
as a total liar. He lied about the war,
he lied about oil, about his
vacation... Liar liar pants
on fire!” A congresswoman from California adds, “It's been a while since the last time we had impeachment proceedings. I'm sure that the American public remembers how productive that was, and is anxious for more.” Patrick Boyle, president of the Noam Chomsky fanclub stated “The latest poll numbers reflect the fact that the public has been carefully studying the great essays of Noam Chomsky, and listening to tapes of his lectures. This is a rejection of years of brainwashing by the capitalist establishment. Finally the spell of imperialist propaganda has been broken.” Blake Michaels also writes for Tight Ends, a Columbia City Paper publication covering USC football. |
